Get Real! SEO is a Process of Constant Discovery

After years of designing and developing web sites for a myriad of small to medium businesses we often encounter the need to do SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) . Increasingly customers ask us to get their sites a TOP 10 in Google et al. This of course is not always easy !

As most clients don’t understand the technical side of building web sites they equally have little clue as to how even basic SEO works. So often their EXPECTATIONS of SEO / page ranking or search positioning are FAR TOO HIGH… certainly in the post web site launch stage.

A customer recently contacted me ONLY one day after we released his site complaining he couldn’t find the site listed in Google !!! Despite telling him it takes time and writing extensive release notes with hints and tips for better SEO.

SEO – No Pain No Gain!

Too many website owners do NOTHING to improve their search ranking. Is this you? This never ceases to amaze us!

FACT: EVERY HOUR THE INTERNET GETS BIGGER and at least 80% of traffic comes through search engines – So every day it is more difficult to get better search ranking & the on-line competition gets fiercer. Google Ranking a New Website

It can take a while for Google (and other search engines) to list and rank your site. Why?

The basic answer is ‘TRUST’. Google search engine ‘watches’ your site closely until it makes it’s ‘mind’ up wether to trust your site and that it has bona-fida content. Many sites are a vehicle for Spammers, Hackers or trying to trick Google into ‘Black-Hat’ techniques to make a quick $ or two with adverts or pornography.

So a new site in particular has to build up it’s reputation over time. Google will give a new domain a page-rank of zero (0 out of 10) until it ‘trusts’ the site. Read the rest of this entry »

Maximising Search Phrases

We were recently asked the following question about search engine optimisation…

>>>Please can you tell me what search words/phrases I should write for my web site? I need to make sure I’m maximising the searchability aspect as much as possible.

What a difficult question!Every search engine is different in that their indexing systems place varying amounts of emphasis on different sections of a web site. Google the main one (some say the only one worth bothering with) puts great emphasis on page content…
