Xmas 2007: Online sales are smashed again

CAPGemini report another year-on-year record for on-line purchases / e-commerce in the UK as reported by the BBC. Shopping cart sales are up by about 50%.

Other reports suggest that retail / high street sales are down over Christmas. We deduce  from that, that UK people want and are now more & more  comfortable buying products and services over the Internet.  Is your business selling online ? Read the rest of this entry »

Update your Website regularly

Dormant or stale websites can get demoted by Search Engines. So it’s vitally important to regularly change your web page content in order to keep the Search Engines ‘interested’ in your website.

Make Spam History

Like many internet consumers I am SICK of SPAM, PHISHING, EMAIL SCAMS and MAN-HOOD ENHANCEMENT REMINDERS. The likes of McAfee, Norton, Sophos, Microsoft, Google and Yahoo all do a great job of minimising SPAM. But it still gets through and is very annoying!!!

Spam wastes so much time

As a consumer and business I have wasted countless hours deleting, sorting and changing email accounts because of SPAM. Multiply that around the globe and that’s a considerable waste of human effort.

Phew!! A Staggering Number of Websites

Every minute the Internet gets bigger. According to the October 2007 Web Server Survey there are OVER 143 MILLION websites on the Internet now. STAGGERING !!!

Last month (Oct’ 07) alone 7.6 million websites appeared. If my maths are correct that’s over 10,000 every hour. Sites like MySpace, Blogger, WordPress and Social Networks are allowing ANYONE to easily publish websites with a few clicks. This accounts for much of this massive increase.

OK, so this means that your website could be drowning in a very congested cyber-swamp!! How the hell do you compete? Read the rest of this entry »

Flash websites, Good or Bad?

A well-known (in I.T. circles) website design consultant once said Flash websites are “99% Bad !!”. His name is Jakob Nielson (see useit.com)

He argues that Flash animation and design works against the user; encourages a ‘bells and whistles’ approach to web design; is bad for people who cannot use a mouse or who have poor/no eye- sight; is bad for people with low-spec’ computer equipment and is poor for search engine listings.

We actually agree (most of the time) with all those… want to know more???
